My Summer Posting Policy

Before I share my "policy", let me just say that I really do enjoy doing things with and for my kids and then sharing those ideas here with you.  In fact, knowing that I now have some followers who have liked what I've shared so far has motivated me to continue to find even more ways to come together as a family. ( a win-win for both my own kids and my readers)

However, now that we're a few weeks into summer break with the kids home with me all day, every day, I've found that my blogging isn't going quite as planned.  For this reason, I'm going to share the policy that I utter all too often here at home...

"You get what you get,
and you don't get upset!"

Basically, our summer days here will fit into one of three scenarios...

Scenario One:

The kids and I do a fun little craft or activity,
try a yummy recipe or go on a cool outing.
I take some great pictures as we're doing it
and then write up an informative tutorial or post
as the kids play nicely with each other
or as they fall asleep happily exhausted at a reasonable hour.
(Obviously, this scenario is the best for our happiness,
my sanity and this blog!)

Scenario Two:

The kids and I have a fun day together,
but it's not really blog-worthy.
Maybe we're doing something that I've already posted about
or just enjoying a morning at the library,
an afternoon at the playground
and an evening swim in the pool.

( In this scenario, we're still happy, I'm still sane,
but I don't have anything new to post about)

Scenario Three:

Whatever project, activity or plans I may have made
never make it to completion because of
constant bickering, whining, tattling and complaining.
There's almost always tears (theirs and/or mine)
and by bedtime, every bit of energy, creativity and patience
that I may have started the day with is completely gone.
The only thing I have to be proud of on this kind of day
is that we made it through.

( In this last scenario, no one's happy, I'm clinging to my sanity
and even if I had something to blog about,
I don't have the energy to even start typing!)

If these first few weeks of Summer are any indication, the three scenarios above will occur about equally (or in all honesty, 50% Scenario Three, and the other two split equally ;)  ).  Therefore, even though I'd initially hoped to share daily posts full of great ideas, it's more likely that I'll have something worth posting about a third of the time.  So, on those days that I share I new post, I hope you like what you get and on those days when things are quiet here on the blog, please don't get upset!

** NOTE **  On those days when the blog here is quiet, take a couple minutes to look through some of my past posts or the great ideas others have shared at our Summer Fun party ~ I'm sure you'll find something fun for you and your kids to try.

  1. You poor thing! Blogging and being a wife and mother are so difficult! You do a great job! I love your stuff. You are very talented. Take the good and throw out the bad.

  2. OH.MY.GOSH!!! I know EXACTLY how you feel! Our days are the same way. I am going to have to remember that quote...that's a good one!

  3. Hahaha, I know what you mean! I have noticed some blogs this summer where people take their most popular posts and just recopy them into a new post and schedule it. This helps bring in new people and even older people still get a look at something they may have missed!

I have a couple of them pre set just in case! haha!

  4. I COMPLETELY understand! I have been trying so hard to "grow" my blog and spend some quality time with it :), but I just feel like I'm living one of the three scenarios you mentioned every day. Usually it's 2 and 3, with a few 1's thrown in. HA! So, enjoy your summer and blog when you can. We will all be here when you get back. :)

  5. We say that ALL THE TIME in this house!! I love your policy and think maybe that's what I've inadvertently been doing too!! Good job, mama!!

  6. All "normal" mommy bloggers will feel just the same ;-). The families with picture perfect kids don't count ;-). We still have 3 weeks of school and kindergarden left before the holidays and they are not nearly as long as yours, and I'm already getting gittery about how we'll cope. The last summer holidays left me completely exhausted and begging for a real vacation ;-). I felt I needed something just for myself and that's when I got into crafting again. I set up my little garage shop and sold all kinds of self-made seasonal decorations for Xmas. And just a little later started my own blog. Have great day - maks :-)

  9. Great policy! I'm finding I'm having the same issues, with the addition of the fact that we are away from home for 6 weeks of the summer. I've lined up some guest posts to fill in the gaps where possible, and for the rest - you get what you get!

  11. I have used that comment in my classroom. My kids chant the end back to me "You get what you get and you (don't throw a fit)". It makes us all giggle.

As the mom of teens, I would give anything to go back to our popsicles on the porch days when my kids were small. I know that it isn't easy, but treasure these days, take lots of pictures, and let yourself live your happy, messy, real life.

  12. When I have both grandchildren together,it's a lot of the same.Constant bickering, whining, tattling and complaining. Now that the grand daughter is getting older,Meemaw projects are getting too boring for her, so she doesn't come as often. John is due here today. He's six.I can get a little more with only him.He is so wrapped up in war games. He'll play outside all day with a make believe weapon, while I work in my many gardens and flower beds.

  13. Don't feel bad, mine get me so exhausted/frustrated I forget to post more times than not!!! I even have the stuff ready to go on my laptop, just need to type it, but NO, I do nothing!!! LOL. My threat when my other kids were little was that if they didn't stop fighting they would have to sit on the couch and hug. By the time they got done arguing about touching each other, they'd be laughing!

  14. Thanks for your honesty! It's nice to know that there are others in the same boat - I can definitely relate.

  15. Don't ever feel bad for neglecting a blog to spend time with your family.

Unless someone is in it for the money, blogging should be an outlet for creativity and an opportunity to share thoughts, ideas and creations, not an obligation - feeling obligated takes all of the fun out of it and is a drain on inspiration.

We all appreciate what you share when you have time.

    Take care and God bless:)
