On Wednesday, I was having a bad day. The temperatures here soared close to 100 degrees, my 5-year old had been whining all day, I was getting nowhere with trying to get organized for Summer break and just life was getting me down. When my older two came home from school (early because of the heat) and my oldest started her non stop whining, I felt my patience level plummeting. I tried to change things around by letting them swim in the pool for awhile and making homemade ice cream, but things just kept getting worse. Soon, I was yelling at them for every little thing, they were crying and I was feeling terrible for taking my bad mood out on them. (Please tell me I'm not the only one this happens to).
I wanted to try to make it up to them at dinner, but it wasn't in the budget to go out to eat. Then I remember this post I'd bookmarked ages ago from Filth Wizardry. I had everything I needed and it couldn't have been easier. While the kids were engrossed in a tv show, I quickly made this super silly dinner. (Next time, I'll let them help)
|Hot dogs and spaghetti|
It was so simple and the silliness of it really helped brighten our moods. Here's how to do it:
1. Cut your hot dogs into 5-6 bite-size pieces and break your thin spaghetti in half.
2. Spear each hot dog piece with several pieces of the uncooked pasta.
3. Boil for a few minutes until the pasta is tender.
4. Serve! As they ate, we tried to come up with good names for this silly creation. They decided that hot dogs + noodles = hot doodles! :)
Finally, some smiles!
