Okay, this is seriously so cool!
The kids got the biggest kick out of these drinks
( they got to drink soda AND it glowed!!) and it was so simple.

| Awesome, isn't it? |
To celebrate the first night of Summer Vacation, the kids got to go out in the backyard in their pj's to catch lightning bugs. While they were filling their jar with fireflies, I remembered THIS cool idea for glow cones I'd seen on Pinterest. I ran inside to see if I had everything I needed. Luckily, I found a package of glow sticks leftover from Halloween. I didn't have any shaved ice, so I just used Sprite, but it was still super cool.
This is all you need: some glowsticks, clear plastic tumbler cups, larger opaque cups ( I used the red keg cups) and your beverage.
Activate your glow sticks and bend them to fit in the bottom of your larger cup. ( If your glowsticks have the connector piece to make them into a bracelet, it's helpful to make it into a circle so it stays in place and doesn't push up on the clear cup). Nestle the clear cup inside the larger cup and fill with your drink.
That's it! Serve to your amazed kids ( or fill with an adult beverage and serve to some amazed adults!)
I definitely plan on doing this again throughout the summer. How cool would it be to have when you're waiting for fireworks on the Fourth of July?

That is really cool. I wish I lived farther south so I could actually do this. Here, in the summer, it doesn't get dark until after 10 pm, and sometimes well after 10 pm. It's kind of weird. (We're transplants so I'm still not used to it.) I can't let the kids stay up that late all the time, so my kids aren't experiencing any of the fun night time activities. :(
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome! Thanks for sharing! I'll link up at Dollar Store Crafts very soon! :)

Love this idea!! I'm totally going to try it for Fireworks night this year, or some other special occasion - Halloween might be a good one.
ReplyDeleteHi. I just happened to find your site.I love that you have lots of projects for children, although mine are out of the nest.I was looking all around the MANY sites & stopped at yours & found The Glow in the dark drinks! Why didn't I think of that! You are very clever & I shall do these as 4th of July drinks. These are Great for Summer Parties,& Night BBQ's,Slumber Parties & the like. Thank you for sharing. I'll be back! : D
ReplyDeletewould it still be safe if one of the sticks accidentally broke?
ReplyDeleteI would think so, Laurie. The glow sticks are sandwiched in between the two cups, so they're not touching the beverage at all. However, if one broke, I'd probably throw it out just to be safe.
ReplyDeleteNot to rain on your parade, but glow sticks are semi-toxic and can cause bad stomach pains (and possible severe illness) if too much is consumed.
ReplyDeleteI love your ideas. I am writing a post and would like to include your ten ideas for a cookout!
ReplyDeletedownhomewithlittlemisskindergarten.blogspot.com
Such a cool idea!! I sometimes put a big bunch of glow sticks in the bottom of the tub while my little one takes a bath, and then I turn off the lights in the bathroom. She thinks it's the coolest thing ever! =)
