On a nice day, bubbles can keep my kids entertained outside for a long time. Quite often, the only the thing that cuts their bubble play time short is when they run out of "bubble juice". When I was browsing at Target the other day, I saw a container that could solve that problem. It's just a simple one-gallon plastic container with a "faucet". I love that we'll be easily able to refill any size bottle of bubbles without spilling.
Here are some more cool activities we've done with bubbles:

To fill up your Bubble Refill Station, here are two homemade bubble recipes that you can use to make up your own batch of bubbles! ( Both seem to work equally well, we'll report back if we find a new favorite)
Recipe #1
- 1 gallon hot water
- 1/4 cup glycerin (available in many pharmacies and craft stores)
- 1 cup Dawn dishwashing liquid
Recipe #2
- 2 1/2 cups water
- 1/2 cup corn syrup
- 1/2 cup Dawn dishwashing liquid

Oh my goodness this is genius! I am going to use this for my preschool class as well. Thanks!!!

ReplyDeleteThat's one of the best outside play ideas I've ever seen!
ReplyDeletefantastic idea! can't wait to try it out
ReplyDeleteA thing on which every child can stumble upon for so long time, it acts as very entertaining stuff for them.
ReplyDeleteHi - I was wondering if any of these ingredients attract wasps or yellow jacket bees more than others? Do you know? I saw some sites with "bubble juice" recipes with warnings about this and didnt try since my son is allergic. Do you know?
ReplyDeleteI haven't noticed an increase in wasps or yellow jackets when we were playing with the bubbles, but I can't say for sure whether the ingredients could possibly attract them
ReplyDeleteThe recipe with the corn syrup really DOES attract bees, wasps, yellow jackets, and ants. So we don't use it. Just use the glycerin recipe. It does not attract more bees than regular bubbles would. But let the glycerin recipe sit overnight to get the best bubbles. For some reason it doesn't produce bubbles as well until it sits for a while. Every drugstore should have glycerin. Ask the pharmacist where it is. Do NOT get rose scented if it is all they have. That will attract bees too.
ReplyDeleteLOVE THIS!! Thank you for sharing!!! I am making this my my 4year olds birthday!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing. We made some bubbles today and enjoyed them. I will share this on my blog and give a link back to your post. Thanks again:-)
ReplyDeleteThis may be a silly question, but does it have to be Dawn dishwashing liquid?
ReplyDeleteNot a silly question at all. I'm sure other dishwashing liquids would also work, but I'd read in several places that Dawn worked a lot better so that's what I used.
ReplyDeleteJust bought a "soap filling station" at the store today! We're so excited :)
ReplyDeleteThank you! My nephew loves bubbles and is so disappointed when the small bottle is empty. Now we can refill!!!
ReplyDeleteLaura-
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this idea and the two bubble recipes. I remember featuring this back at Creative Juice Thursday last year, and I thought it would be a great addition to my new site, The Classroom Creative.
We featured your post at our field day round-up.

Thank you so much for the recipes and great "bubble filling station" idea my daughter loves this and is having so much fun:)
ReplyDeleteThis is really a great idea, years past when my four son's were younger I was making bubbles all day long... :D
ReplyDeleteThis is such a great idea and actually saves time. I bought a brand new container at the Goodwill for 75 cents this past weekend.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea!! Can't wait to get the container and start using it for my VPK class when it starts getting warmer!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the wonderfull idea!!! My kids birthdays are comming up and I plan on having a duel party. Setting up a bubble station like this is perfect the kids will go crazy with it. The best thing about it to me is that unlike so many things that can be used for kid partys this wont go bad and can be reused later. This will be a great activity for my kids in the basement when it is too cold to venture outside.
ReplyDeleteDoes the corn syrup one get sticky?
ReplyDeleteIt's really not sticky at all. I might not use it inside, but outside it's not a problem.
Deletedo u mean gallons(US) or (UK) ??
ReplyDeleteGallons US (although I didn't even realize they were different!)
DeleteHello Laura!
ReplyDeleteThis idea is great and I just prepared this for my kid. But I have few doubts regarding this..
I am from India where I don't get any of the above mentioned dishwasher solution brands. What I have used is VIM which has lime in it, so does that work??
Out of curiosity I just tried blowing bubbles but what I realized is bubbles start but they never take off. So is that because I didn't allow water to cool down completely or the way I prepared the solution is incorrect like I took all the ingredients as you mentioned in the first recipe except the dishwasher solution.
I am very eager to know this because I promised my boy that we would start playing in the evening and I don't want to see him disappointed if it doesn't work.
If you can please respond to my queries ASAP.
Thanks in advance
Sravanthi
