The Bubble Fun started this week at our house with the Bubble Refill Station and a couple homemade bubble recipes. Then, we made some super fun (and super easy) Really BIG Bubble Makers. Now, we're adding one more inexpensive and really easy activity to do with bubbles ~ the Bubble Snake Maker!
I first found this great idea last summer from my friend, Kimberly, at The Muddy Princess. My kids loved it and were asking to do it again when we broke out the bubbles earlier this week.
Look how easy they are to make!
1. Gather your supplies ~ an empty plastic bottle, a piece of terry cloth fabric ( I used an old washcloth, but a old tube sock works great too ) and a rubber band.
2. Cut the bottom off your plastic bottle and cut your fabric into a circle.
3. Assemble your Bubble Snake Maker by putting the fabric over the open bottom of your bottle and securing it with the rubber band.
4. Put some dish detergent in a bowl and add a little bit of water. Dip your Bubble Snake Maker in and you're ready to go!
5. Have fun making your Bubble Snakes!! After dipping into the soap mixture, gently blow into the mouth of your bottle. A slow, gentle stream of air will create a long chain of bubbles. ( Just don't inhale, or you might get a mouthful of bubbles ~ yuck! )

It's a fun little project that will keep the kids happy and entertained, but costs next to nothing!

This is a great idea! My kids love bubbles, and are going through a "we love snakes" phase. This will be a perfect weekend activity for them. Looks like we are cutting up some bottles in the morning. Thanks for a great idea!

ReplyDeleteBe very careful with this. I did this with a group of kids ages 4-6 and even after carefeul intructions, two of the kids ended up inhaling the bubbles and had quite a problem...very cool idea, but be careful!

ReplyDeleteJust tried this with the 5 year old that I nanny for. We've been trying to find new things to do because he recently had open heart surgery so he can't run around like he wants to. He absolutely LOVED this activity and it allowed him to get out of the house and have some fun. Thanks for the idea! :)

ReplyDeleteGreat idea!! My nephew loves bubbles but can't get the whole "blow gently and hold it still" part.. So this seems almost fool proof so he can blow his bubbles to and not get upset that none are coming out
ReplyDeleteI just made this for my five year old son. At first he was game, then he accdentally sucked in the bubbles. LOL!! Now he thinks dying! He said it was the worst idea ever! Hopefully I can get him to try it agin. I know he would have tons of fun with it. I still think it's brilliant!!!
ReplyDeleteI had the same thing happen with my granddaughter. Shr sucked up pretty much pure dish detergent!! She is in bed with a bad bellyache! Still funny though! She inhaled deep to better blow bubbles!! Not a good idea!
ReplyDeleteOh no! Definitely warn the kids about blowing out, not sucking in! Maybe give them a few practice tries before you dip it in the bubble solution so you're sure they have the hang of it!

ReplyDeleteHmmm, not sure. I would think hand soap would work, but it may not have quite as many bubbles as dish soap.
DeleteMy grandchildren loves it. One granddaughter took off the cloth and dipped the bottle end in the bubbles and blew huge bubbles! Now we have another way to make bubble wands. You can even turn the bottle around (after rinsing) and dip the drinking end into the bubbles. Little fellows can put the cut end over their mouth and blow. Easy bubble blowing!

Who knew you could blow bubbles through a wash cloth like that? Sounds like a fun tub activity too! Can't wait to try in with the Grandkids! Thanks Laura! You ROCK!
ReplyDeleteI wonder what would happen if you punctured a small hole somewhere on the bottle so you couldn't suck up. This works with straws for straw painting: making a pin hole on the straw prevents sucking but allows blowing.
